Understand Your Medicare Options

Sourcewise provides residents of Santa Clara County access to the Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program (HICAP). One-on-one counseling assists Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to understand their Medicare benefits and best healthcare options.

HICAP is part of the national network of State Health Insurance Assistance Programs (SHIP) and is the Santa Clara County source for unbiased and objective Medicare related counseling and information.

Sourcewise HICAP counselors are trained, California state-registered staff and volunteers. Counselors provide Medicare one-on-one appointments, community education, and outreach throughout Santa Clara County.  HICAP does not sell, endorse, promote or recommend commercial insurance products or services.

The Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) will end on December 7. Add, switch, or drop a Medicare Part D drug plan. Add, switch or drop a Medicare Part C HMO plan. Speak with a Health Insurance Counselor at one of our counseling sites throughout Santa Clara County to receive unbiased information about your Medicare choices during this time.

The newly reinstated Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (MAOEP) is from January through March 2020. There will be more time to switch or leave a Medicare Advantage Plan. Note that Original Medicare beneficiaries cannot switch 2020 Part D Prescription Drug Plans during the MAOEP.
